Southside Shockers VS Setting Ducks

Battle of opposites could be used to describe this matchup as the Ducks took on the Shockers. Setting Ducks generally are a poise and traditional team. They stick to what works. Bump, set, and spike! They are a crew who have excellent team work and know how to score. Southside on the other hand could be described as eccentric. They are scrappy which tends to put every player in a different spot on the court than which they started the point in. As the match progressed, the Ducks had trouble scoring on the Shockers as they continued to hit back every shot. In the end, Southside took the night, winning 7-3

Scared Hitless VS I’d Hit That

Scared Hitless took on I’d Hit That to advance to the championship round! This match started out one sided as Scared took the first 5 of 7 games. They used their excellent hitting to expose the gaps in I’d Hit That’s line up. After some self criticism, I’d Hit that got to work, catching the score back up to 5 even. In an overtime match, I’d Hit that was just able to sneak the win in to advance to the championship round next week. Final score 6-5

Pembroke All-Stars VS EZPASS

Pembroke vs Ezpass was easily one of the most entertaining game to watch. Both teams consist on high energy and very sociable people who although get along great, tend to run into each other… Quite often! That didn’t dampen either team’s spirits as they play 55 mins of crazy and hilarious wallyball that this league has seen! At the end, EZ ended up with the win 9 – 3. Pembroke now advances to the golden toilet bowl round next week!

How We Set Your Mom VS Balls to the Walls

The other 2 teams to face off for the championship, How We Set Your Mom played Balls to the Walls in an action packed match. Balls, missing Courtney, talked league famous, Kelsey W to sub in her absence. Both of these teams were fairly even matched in offense and defense, but HWSYM had a slight edge over Balls. They took the win 7 – 4 and advanced to the championship round. If HWSYM plays like they have been, I’d Hit That will have their hands full with this scrappy and talented team.

Wally Llamas VS The Empire Strikes Back

Both teams had something to prove when the Llamas played Empire. Each team, coming off of a lost, wanted to shake off the shackles of defeat. The Llamas, having a great session so far, wanted to keep pushing forward with another win against a tough team. Led by FWSSC famous Kelley D, they pushed and pushed each game to late round points. Unfortunately for the Llamas, Jen M and Empire had other plans. Scrappiness and heavy hitting propelled Empire pasted the Llamas, 7-4

Two Bump Chumps VS 21 Jump Street

Just squeaking by, Two Bump Chumps barely make it past the 21 Jump Street crew. 21 only having just 3 of their members show up, really put on a fight against the Chumps. Maybe it was the extra space or the less amount of bodies to run into, 21 played well despite their numbers handicap. The Chumps, only having 4 of their 5 members, took the absence of their 5th player in stride. Superb passing and great defense took its toll on 21 as the Chumps took the last match of the night and won the game, 5-4.

Gasoline Squirrels VS PSL: Comeback Kids

Since Gasoline didn’t report their scores, like good children, I can’t tell you who won. From what I saw, Gasoline played like they normally do… All over the place! With big man, Max throwing his body everywhere to save the volley and Jess throwing up perfect sets, Gasoline played their game against the well balanced team of PSL. Kelly for PSL really played out of her mind. A normally passive player, she had a note worthy performance against the offensive heavy Squirrels. PSL has come a long way from the beginning of the session. Given enough time, this team could be one of the top teams in FWSSC

One Hit Wonders VS Practice Safe Sets

If you were there at the time One Hit Wonders faced off against Practice Safe Sets, more than likely, you would have heard their laughter! Safe Set’s team member AJ, was nice enough to fill in the 5th spot on One Hit’s team, since Kaleb wasn’t able to make it. It wasn’t clear if that tipped the scales for the fun and silliness to start or if it was something as simple as 2 teams just meshing well together. This game was filled with giggling and game stopping laughter. At the end of the hour, One Hit Wonders won 7-3 but it was clear that it was less about who won and more about having a great time

Average Joes and Athletic Hoes Vs Intentional Talk

What a game to watch! League juggernaut, Average Joes faced the relative new team of Intentional Talk in this week 2 matchup. Intentional had a roller coaster of a game. Starting out behind AJAH, they were able to claw their way back in the 4 inning to take the lead, if only by 1. From there, it was a back and forth slugfest. Taking the close game to the 6th and final inning, I.T. took the lead by 3 and fought to hold off the last stand of the Joes. The Joes, in similar fashion, continuously teetered back and forth as the lead kept changing hands. Down and at the last minute, the Joes slid up their sleeves and were able to eek out the win against I.T. 18 to 14

Spicy Swingers VS Inglorious Batters

Another close game decided by the last inning, Spicy Swingers VS Inglorious Batters kept us on the edge of our seats! SS took an early and promising lead in the first inning as they scored 8 runs and held the Batters to only 2. Captain of the Swingers, Brandon S was asked what his plan was to continue his team’s success. He said, ” What had happen is that we plan to get more people to home plate to score points.” With that sage advice, his team led most of the game all the way to the last inning. The Batters, after a reeling first 3 innings, mounted one heck of a comeback as they rallied around Alexa’s inspiring words of encouragement and were able to take the lead and the game in the last inning, 17 to 15

” What had happen is that we plan to get more people to home plate to score points.”

Jager Bombers VS Get Rec’d

The 3rd and final really close game, Jager Bombers VS Get Rec’d was one of suspense and thrills as the Bombers won, 15 to 14 in the final inning. Get Rec’d, feeling confident now that they know most of the rules and after a momentous comeback win last week, took an early lead with superb base running and crushing hits. Taking this tactic from Get Rec’d, the Bombers slowly pushed back and took the led and the game in the final seconds of the 6th inning. Like a prophet, Ron of Get Rec’d said this before the bottom of the 6th, ” I have a bad feeling about this Mr. Stark. I don’t think we are going to stop them.” After this week of games, the standings are very convoluted, but both of these teams are still possible candidates for the playoffs.

” I have a bad feeling Mr. Stark.”

Balls Deep VS Smokin’ Bases

Smoking Bases led by Captain Julia Lange, played the sport-wise Balls Deep in this match of undefeated teams. Smokin’ started off strong with a few runs hit in and solid outfield performances from Manny and Ben. Fellow teammate Jason bragged about his fantastical E.R.A of .09 as his team took an early 3 run lead. Balls Deep, although slow to start, put on a clinic as they scored run after run. Josh B had a stellar game at bat. Able to hit it anywhere he wanted, he and the rest of Balls Deep, took control and never looked back as they won 17-8.

Washing Some Headskins VS Smell My Finger

Needing a win and help from another team to get into the playoffs, Smell My Finger played Washing Some Headskins in a decisive and rainy game. WSH started out strong, driving deep into SMF’s defense with all star qb Sara’s pin-point accuracy.

” This was the most fun we had all season”

Unfortunately, the rain took it’s toll on the Headskins as one of their top players, Nick B blew out his cleats during their opening drive. They would recover somewhat through out the game with big scores coming from old man Manny, excellent catches from Andy, and great qb pressure on defense from Margo. SMF came into this game needing to win and win big to keep their hopes alive for making playoffs. With speedster Tanner making huge plays with his evasive speed and qb Gretchen throwing multiple TD’s, SMF did just that. They took the game, 36 – 78. Despite the lost, WSH spoke well of SMF. Margo of WSH said, ” This was the most fun we had all season” Win or lose the game, as long as it’s fun, who cares?!?

Gronkey Punchers VS Average Joes and Athletic Hoes

You would think since both of these teams are in the playoffs already, it wouldn’t be a slugfest… Well you would be WRONG! This game was as close as it gets. The first half was entirely in favor of the Joes/Hoes as they had a 20+ lead with just seconds before the half. That was only until GP’s Nick threw James a laser of a pass to put GP on the board. With that momentum, GP keep the pressure up through out the rest of the game. James and Nick connected again with a toe tap edge of the end zone catch to keep GP in it. The AJAH, although hard pressed, still managed to squeak by their rivals 37 – 35. Qb Sean made play after play, not only with his arm but also with his feet. Extending plays to give his high powered and athletic offense time to get open. AJAH has their deep roster and the best crew of females to thank for this nail bitting win.

Whole Pack of Chickens VS Gravy Train

Whole pack of chicken started off as cold as the brisk breeze that swept over the fields at kickoff. Gravy train had tons of big plays, interceptions, long TD’s and great runs. Whole pack of chicken had a few great passes and defensive stops, but it wasn’t enough. Gravy Train had a fluid defense and read the QB’s eyes well, picking off 6 balls. They doubled down on those by putting up points on the turnovers. Whole pack of chicken mounted a solid comeback effort, driving the field and down 2 scores. But that final pick and subsequent TD put the game out of reach. In the end Gravy Train won 46-29.

Tuesday Wallyball- Spring ’19 – week 5

Setting Ducks VS How we set your Mother

For the first time this season Setting Ducks was off their home court, having to play on court D. Ashley coached up her squad, invigorating them with confidence necessary to win anywhere.  This match came down the last few shots of the last game. The Ducks used great passes and awesome hits, but came up short against how we set your mother’s scrappy attitude and wallyball grit. How we set your mother made great recovery saves and didn’t give up on any plays. That attitude allowed them to eek out a 5-4 victory and keep their championship plans in tact.

Pembroke AllStars VS Gasoline squirrels

Pembroke all-stars were down one of their stars last night, having to call on Mike Patmore to sub in and attempt save the day. Gasoline squirrels are an very experienced team, with tons of tricks and strategies to help them waffle into the fun bracket. Joe has a killer serve that hugs the wall without ever touching the wall and making it extremely difficult to return. Gasoline squirrels also maximizes the value of the walls with lots of side to side shots, and back wall blasts to return high volleys. The allstars played their best match of the season, and after falling to a 0-4 hole did bring the final score back to a respectable 3-4. They keep this up and they may not end up “winning” Dead ‘Effin last!

Southside Shockers VS Scared Hitless

Returning Champions Scared Hitless brought their ‘A’ game this week. Team chemistry and communication allowed them to keep the pressure up against the Southside Shockers’s high energy playing style. Southside had some incredible diving saves, but also just ended up on the floor hanging out a fair bit as well. Scared Hitless’ season best performance showed in the final score, winning 11-1.

Wally Llamas VS Balls to the Wall

Balls to the wall won this match 6-4, but that doesn’t tell the real story here. There were a few stand outs, like Paige who just crushed the ball, but the more entertaining aspect was watching the Balls to the Wall just kept getting in each other’s way. The court could have been 100×100 feet and they still would have found a way to smack each other’s arms and hands in efforts to play without a single aspect of verbal of non communication.

Two Bump Chump VS One hit Wonders

We’re pretty sure two bump won this game, but without a score input by a captain (uhmm) we can’t be positive. They were missing their secret weaspn, Dar, but had Kaleb back from a prolonged absence. Donielle spent an hour after the game reenacting all the goofy things her mom did during the game, mostly hitting her own players and somehow even assigning homework during the game. In the end, this was a fun match with both teams playing well and having a blast out there!

EZPass VS PSL

With a buzzer beater type of win PSL won 5-4. Kealy and Melissa took charge of a squad missing it’s captain TJ. Lee had some great hits, and Jasmine toughed out having to carry a second human onto the court. On the other side Mitch and Chris took care of the big hits, while Kelley and Jen had great set-ups and bump passes to keep the team working together and functional.

I’d hit that VS Empire strikes back

Empire hits back has been a powerhouse all season, but tonight they were dominated by I’d hit that. The Derek and Racheal combo was unstoppable, bringing the skills, height and fun. Amber made them work for each point, and may have beaten any other team this week, but I’d hit that brought that thunder and won 10-0.

21 Jump Serve Vs Practice safe Sets

21 came to play, and left with a big W. Both teams had to do some last minute recruiting to get field a full squad tonight, which played a part in communication errors making volleys hard to come by. AJ and Jenna put in great effort on those dammed corner shots all night, while on the other side Chris and Kayla had outstanding performances.

Smell My Finger VS Average Joes and Athletic Hoes

Going into this game, Smell My Finger has lost the last 2 games in a row. So to say they really wanted to come out on top isn’t a stretch. AJAH on the other hand, haven’t lost a game since the dinosaurs were alive. That being said, their competitiveness wouldn’t let them not give 110% each and every game. The first half was very close, with the score at 27 – 20 for AJAH. With a 20 yard touchdown throw, Gretchen led the way for SMF, while Elisha caught two, toe tap touchdowns to keep the AJAH ahead. The second half was a different story. The Joe’s roster depth and talent kept them going as they scored drive after drive while SMF slowly and inevitably became gassed out. The final score ended up in favor for the Joe’s, 49 to 26. Going forward, AJAH have nothing to worry about as long as they keep playing like they have. Seeing how they haven’t lost in several sessions, that’s a good bet. SMF need to win next week against Washing Some Headskins to make it into the playoffs. If they do, they’ll end up in a grudge match against the Joe’s.

A Whole Pack of Chickens VS Washing Some Headskins

Both teams came into this game needing a win to keep their playoff dreams in tact. If Washing Some Headskins lost they would be eliminated, if the WPC lost, they would need some help to get back in. Both teams played hard, and the 12 lead changes in the first half along reflected their effort.

The headskins discovered Sara is a superstar QB, throwing 4TD’s amidst her long darts to an array of fast WR’s over the middle. The Chickens were able to land some long passes to Turtle and Sam for TD’s to keep the point onslaught going back and forth.

Late in the game the Chickens were able to pick off a trio of passes and capitalize with TD’s. That inflated the score, which finished 69-45. Both teams had fun, laughed, and some injuries to legs, thumbs, and nuts. All in all, great game!

Gronkey Punchers VS Gravy Train

What a back and forth game this was as Gravy Train gets their second win against a then, undefeated Gronkey Punchers. GT is one of the new teams this session in flag and they fit in quite well. With playmakers on both sides of the ball, it was only a matter of time before this team got the hang of everything. With great speed and hands from their wideouts, they pushed the remarkable defense of Duff and GP to their limits. GP came into this game with a perfect record. As a counter to the dominant AJAH, they looked to continue their streak with a win against GT. Star QB Nick returned from a week off and looked to pick up where he left off. After a back and forth game, GT ended up taking the led with no time left and getting the upset against GP. With 3 wins, the Punchers are in second place, but they face AJAH next week. Gravy Train moves into a tie for 3rd with Whole Pack of Chickens, who they play next week. Week 5 promises to be the deciding week for the whole league. Get some sleep, stretch, and tighten up your cleats because it’s going to be EPIC!

All Stars VS How We Set Your Mom

HWSYM looked to continue their winning streak and to remain perfect against the scrappy and squirrelly All Stars. Like all of their pervious games, The Stars took everything with a laugh. New comers Charlotte and Francesca add lots of energy and excitement to the team while veterans Chris and Stacey contribute experience to the mix. Although losing 7 -1, the Stars still put up a fight against a well-rounded team. How We Set Your Mom remains undefeated with a great performance of teamwork and tenacity. Along with I’d Hit That, HWSYM is current tied for the top seed entering playoff’s week. Will they stay unbeatable when they start playing in the championship bracket? Stay tune Wally fans!

Wally Llamas VS One Hit Wonders

“Yeah, it sucks that we lost, but win or lose… I still get to drink beer!”

The Llamas take on One Hit Wonders as they continue their playoff push. The Wonders looking to get that first win down, had to play a sudden death tiebreaker before this match. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards for them as they lost to PSL to stay win-less. Captain Donielle was without break out stars Dar, LeAnne and Kaleb this week as they lost 7 – 2. They battled against a fully powered and hopeful Llamas team. Teammate Andy had this to say; “Yeah it sucks that we lost, but win or lose… I still get to drink a beer.” The Llamas are in unfamiliar territory they advance to 3 – 1. On the cusp on the playoffs, this team is looking to rewrite all of they previous missed opportunities. Next week will tell if either team will has something to prove after this week

Setting Ducks VS PSL – Comeback Kids

The Comeback Kids had a lot of momentum coming into the game vs. the Setting Ducks. Winning their tiebreaker against One Hit Wonders, the Kids were looking to continue their luck against the Ducks team, who have won their last 2 games.

 “Home Field advantage!”

Ashley and her crew looked sharp as they flowed seamlessly between offense and defense. The Kids gradually wore themselves out as their hits were controlled and repelled as they ended up losing 9 – 2. The Ducks has had the good fortune to play on the same court this whole session, as they were heard chanting, “Home field advantage!” Will they win if forced to play on a different court? Can PSL bounce back after this defeat? Only next week will tell!

Scared Hitless VS Two Bump Chumps

What a match this was, as Scared Hitless edges out Two Bump Chumps in a very tightly contested 6 – 5 victory. Hitless really had a point to prove after that tough lost last week. Not used to the bitter taste, they set out to prove that last week was a fluke. But even with renewed purpose and determination, they just barely pushed past the Chumps. The tie-dyed crew of Two Bump Chumps really gave the veteran Hitless team a pause as they almost took the game. Captain Cameron gave everything he had to get his team into position to steal the game. With a notable performance by Philip Sholl, they nearly did just that. Rolling with the punches, both teams are looking to the future as the playoffs loom.

The Empire Strikes Back VS EZ Pass

Getting their first win of the session, EZ Pass upsets the fan favorite Empire Strikes Back crew 5 -4. All smiles, captain T.J. of EZ Pass said, “I’m so surprised we won… I think I’m going to buy some lottery tickets tonight!” Keeping this victory in mind, EZ now feels they have everyone’s attention and are no longer the underdogs of the league. Empire, although upset with themselves, are taking the lost in stride. After speaking with several members of the team, they fell that they underestimated EZ and will not do that again in the future. Both teams are using this week’s game as an example for future.

“I’m so surprised we won… I think I’m going to buy some lottery tickets tonight!”

21 Jump Serve VS Southside Shockers

After a stellar win last week, 21 Jump Serve had high hopes entering last night’s game against a red hot Southside Shockers team. The Shockers have been looking like a playoff team, especially after a shut out victory in week 3. Incredible performances by Taylor and sub Nicole, the Shockers took the win 6 – 2. 21 Jump is still a tough team and will continue to challenge any team they face. They will only get better as their team chemistry gets stronger and stronger.

I’d Hit that VS Gasoline Squirrels

Defending champs, I’d Hit That, took on the Gasoline Squirrels. The Squirrels are an old team with a new name. All of it’s members have played countless wallyball games and were looking to use that expertise to dethrone the oh so good I’d Hit That. Throwing every trick and hit at them, the Squirrels just ran out of gas. Offense or defense, it didn’t matter to IHT. They were just firing on cylinders. They took the game 9 – 0, and still remain undefeated. IHT is currently tied for 1st place with How We Set Your Mom and is looking forward to playing for the championship again. The Squirrels are disappointed but will bounce back. Playing as many games as they have, they know the ups and downs and can take the bad games with the good.

Balls to the Wall VS Practice Safe Sets

Alex Thomas led the charge for Balls to the Walls as they faced Sandra and a scrappy Practice Safe Sets. The Sets ended up losing 10 – 1 but the score doesn’t show how much the pushed back against the Walls. John really took charged and played out of is mind! Balls have been killing it! Now with a 3 – 1 record, they are a shoe in for the top 4 and hoping to make the championship bracket. Safe sets took the L but will not stop trying for the next W. Taking a breath over the next week, both teams are looking forward to their next challenge

The Empire Strikes Back VS Shredder Chilestroni

This was a match up made in the stars as Empire faced off against Shredder. Both of these tough and versatile teams really lit up the scoreboards. This game was so close that it forced an overtime, winner takes all, battle of the century, final game! Shredder, with lead man Derek Hill, found enough reserves in their tank to edge out the win for a 6 – 5 victory against Empire. Shredder overcame big odds for this victory. Teammate Rachael C had to borrow sneakers just to play and then got hit in the face! Empire wasn’t without their own woes as captain and commander Brain M hurt his hip and other parts as he pushed his body to the limit. Caleb S, Jen M, John and Laura O made every point against Empire a trial for Shredder. If these two teams meet in the playoffs, WATCH OUT! It’s going to be good!!!

Good Vibez VS Wallyball Wizzards

Titans squared off as Good Vibez played against Wallyball Wizzards. With only one game under their belts, GV looked like seasoned pros out there as the won a very tight and contested game, 6 – 5. David and Kody really showed their “Ups” with a lot of spikes while Andy, Monica, and Kristina put up great bump passes and sets. Not to be out-done, the Wizzards played amazingly. Without 3 of their normal teammates, captain Greg S and fellow teammate Seth G, called in reinforcements to help battle GV. Even playing down 4 -5, the Wizzards had a good chance of winning each and every game. Playing this team with all of their members is going to be almost impossible. With their high-powered offense and defense, this tall team will probably be playoff bound, despite this lost. Both teams put on an exciting show and can’t wait to play in week 3.

To the Wallz VS Goliath National Bank Corp

To the Wallz, coming off an impressive win, took on Goliath National Bank Corp this week. Goliath was looking to rebound after a devastating lost last week. Going back to the basics, they were able to bump, set, spike their way to a 2 – 7 victory. Despite their captain Max D not being there, they showed excellent synergy and really put on a clinic. On the other side of the net, captain Ryan Zuber and the To the Wallz crew, really gave it their all! One notable moment was when LeAnn Gibbs took a hit to her face for a point against Wallz. Only to come back the next serve and completely dominate the volley. Wallz really pushed Goliath every game. Taking almost every match to the scoring limit. They showed that they really have heart and will push back against even the best of teams. Both teams are already looking forward to week 3 in the struggle for wallyball supremacy.

Wyld Stallyns VS Sixty-Nine

Sixty-Nine and the Wyld Stallions took to the court full of laughter. The games went on, and the laughs kept going. Much of the game was spent trying to remember what the score was, as both teams were focused on celebrating the small victories within the game. Sixty-nine was disappointed that they never were able to get in their team-dance, which happens when they serve up a point of 6 to 9. In the end it didn’t matter who won, because the game was a blast and both teams cannot wait for next week.

Average Joe’s and Athletic Hoe’s VS Whole Pack of Chickens

With the solid choice of scissors Mandy chose to start AJAH on defense. Sam put the whole chicken pack on her back the first drive, rushing for 40 yards and getting her team up to an early 7-point lead. The first half was back and forth. Sean was TB12’ing it, picking apart the Chicken’s defense with short and intermediate throws. Efficiency was key to their victory. AJAH were able to salt away the game with a long 3-minute drive ending in a score, which put them up by 14 with 30 seconds left. The whole Pack of Chickens forced AJAH to 2 different 4th downs on the drive, trying to get the ball back and make a last drive to take a lead, but alas, AJAH’s efficiency was on MAX, and it was not to be. All in all, the game was close, and both teams are excited to meet in the playoffs.

Smell My Finger VS Gronkey Punchers

Although the final score of 31 – 16 doesn’t reflect it, this was a close game. Stellar defense by the Gronkey’s really propelled them to victory. John Duff and Mitch Petersen caught 2 of the 3 interceptions for the Punchers to stall Smell My Finger. Offensive woes really put SMF’s defense on their heels against the athletic and fast members of GP. This was very apparent in the red zone, when SMF failed to score twice. Both attempts resulting in a turnover. SMF had several momentum swings on defense in their favor, only to end up giving it back to GP’s high powered offense. All and all, it was a hard fought game for both teams. GP is now the number 1 seed for playoffs as they just pushed pass Average Joe’s/Athletic Hoe’s. Despite losing the last 2 games, SMF are still in contention for a playoff spot. Week 4 will be the deciding week for both teams

Gravy Train VS WashingSMheadskin

The contest between new teams, Gravy Train and WashingSMheadskin was very eventful! After two tightly contested games, the Gravy Train crew desperately wanted to show the world how good they truly are. With Jill Handcock really shining as a QB, GT is a very versatile team. With speedsters Jordan, Mitchell, and Zac causing the secondary to break apart, WashingSMheadskin had trouble stopping the long ball. 55 -27 was the final tally, allowing GT to count their first win. WashingSMheadskin shouldn’t be over looked in at all. Andy B’s team is a well-balanced mixture of size and skill with Alex Bricker doin a flip during a game to secure a hefty gain. Notable performances by Nate Fleming, who ran a kickoff back and Garrett Bricker who’s awesome D really kept this game being a blow out, are just a few examples of why Washing maybe the underdog team of the league. This team also have a very under rated core group of females. Despite being new to the league, Margo, Addy, Kaitlin, Sara, and Hannah are becoming quite possibly the best to challenge the dominating group of ladies that really put Average Joes/Athletic Hoe’s above the other teams. Once this team starts to win, watch out!

 Tuesday Wallyball – Week 3 – Spring, ’19

Southshide Shockers VS Pembroke AllStars

This was a battle of opposites! Southside Shockers, being an established team across all sports, face off against the newly-formed Pembroke all stars. The All-Stars, still trying to find their groove and build team chemistry were hoping to bounce back after last week’s upsetting loss to claim their first victory. Unfortunately for the Stars, the Southside Shockers had other plans. After a hard-fought lost last week, the Shockers were in it, to win it. They did that, over and over again! The stout leadership of Ben Fendel and an outstanding performance by Leah Hall, helped them catapult over the Stars 9 – 0. Don’t count out the all stars yet. Although not winning a match, this team is “getting better” and better with each game. With Chris “the commissioner” collet, Stacy “great set” Carlson, and new comers Satwik Krishnan, Char, and Francesca … this isn’t a team to sleep on.

How We Set Your Mom VS The Empire Strikes Back

This game was a battle of juggernauts! The Empire Strikes Back, led by core members Jennifer and Brian Mahocker tested their might against Tom Schriner’s How We Set Your Mom. This was a back-and-forth match with both sides having experienced players. This game was a nail biter! It was anyone’s match until Will Davis accidently hit Michelle Curtis with a friendly fire attack. After that, the Empire couldn’t strike back anymore. How We Set Your Mom continued to fire on all cylinders with Jill Schriner’s power hits and Jake Brauner’s stellar saves. They were able to edge out the victory 6 – 4. Andy V of Empire had this to say, “This was a tough, tough match. Every game was close but the force wasn’t with us this time.”

Setting Ducks VS EZpass

Sitting Ducks versus EZ Pass was a roller coaster ride! The Ducks, led by Ashley Chiu and Tyler Wiederhold were able to get their second win against the scrappy Tj Blaugh and the EZpass. The final score doesn’t reflect it, but EZ really pushed the Ducks every game. Kealy Bickel really shined with Melissa Rupright next to her. Their chemistry helped them stay in the match. On the other side, the Ducks did what they do best and buckled down. With excellent offense and defense, Kate D, Michael E, and Todd Vernynckt controlled each game while Hillary Zeid served point after point. The Ducks take the match 8 – 3. After this grueling match, both teams are looking forward. One team with high prospects and the other with trepidation.

Scared Hitless VS Balls to Da Wall

It was looking pretty questionable for Balls to the Wall at the start of the game. Captain Brandon Crandall was left pacing, as he was the only team member on time. Fate ended up being kind to the Balls as they would end up playing a heated 4v4 against Tristan Lichtsinn and The Undefeated Scared Hitless. Balls got down to their winning business and took the match 7 – 3. With the effort of Jayme Nill and unorthodox style of Alex Thomas, Balls were able to stop the rolling wave that was Scared Hitless. Scared had only four people show up this week and maybe that was the reason why they are no longer undefeated. To their credit, even with four members, they were able to keep pushing back against a very good team. Even after this loss, I would not count Scared Hitless out of the playoffs.

Wally Llamas VS Gasoline Squirrels

This was a sibling rivalry for the decades! Dickmeyer versus Dickmeyer. This match proved who is the better Dickmeyer. The Squirrels, coming off a victory last week were looking to keep the momentum going. With the expertise that Max has and the reliability of Tricia Rohrer, this team had high hopes. The Wally Llamas on the other hand had no mercy to give as they went on to dismantle the Squirrels. Kelley had a point to prove to her baby brother and it was easily apparent with how the Llamas played. Jordan Backer, under the watchful eyes of his fiancé Alex Rossmann, was able to dominate the net. Captain Paige Edmonds launched power hit after hit to propel the Llamas to 6 – 2 victory. After the game Jordan said, “Those were some great volleys… But winning Alex was the best prize!” Both teams are still looking like playoff contenders, but which one will take a spot???

Practice Safe Sets VS. 21 Jump Serve

This game was a slugfest! The final score may not suggest it, but these games were tough. Practice Safe Sets, led by Josh Stier, came into the week with a .500 record. Looking to push forward and clear the 500 mark, they were the clear favorites going into the match. On the other hand, 21 Jump Serve were looking to put their first win on the board after devastating losses week 1 and 2. Captain Brianna Putt has had her hands full with this relatively new team. Chris Deitche and Kayla Doran put in soild efforts as Brian Burr’s height took its toll on the Safe Sets. After a disappointing loss of 2 – 9, Safe Sets are looking to bounce back against a very tough Ball’s to The Wall team. With members Katie Fultz and Lindsay Mast out for revenge, I think this team is one to watch out for.

I’d Hit That and Two Bump Chumps

I’d Hit That is STILL undefeated. They’re on a mission to win that Championship trophy!

With a very strong… And mostly tall team, they are on top of the leader boards at 3 – 0. Their opponents, Two Bump Chumps, were hoping to crest that .500 with a win. Unfortunately, Hit That came to play and ended up with the win 8 – 4. Even with this defeat, Chumps should take pride in winning 4 games against a top contender. Against any other team, Chumps would probably have won this week

PSL Comeback Kids VS One Hit Wonders

John Krempel was asked how the games are going and said, “Ahhh we’re losing but looking to get back on track” and they were able to do just that as they recorded their first tie of the season. The Comeback kids lived up to there namesake in this match for the ages. Looking for their first win, Caitlin Dearth and the Kids played their hearts out. With the awesome striking of Jenn Grush, PSL were able to keep the score predominantly even throughout the match. One Hit’s Captain Donielle Krempel, really hyped her team up in anticipation for their first win as well. With the energetic performance by Andy Bricker and the dogged determination of Dar Bush, One Hit really put their skills on the map. Because of both team’s great performances, there might be a one game wins all match in the future. Stay tuned…

 Wiffleball – Spring 19′ Monday, Week 1

International Talk VS Smoking Bases

The navy sweatshirts of International Talk took on the bright red of Smoking Bases. Both teams consist of a hodge podge of old faces and new in our first week of Wiffle. International, with veterans like Brooklyne and Darrin, looked to take charge of a mostly new team. With a good cast of characters like, Kaitlyn H, Drake, and Chandler E, I.T. has a solid crew. Luckily for the Bases, this first game was mostly about shaking off the rust and creating some team chemistry. Smoking Bases looks like a team who has been playing for years! Captain Julia L has assembled a team of all FWSSC veterans. Players like Nate K and Jason B, who have played many sports but have recently taken time off, really round out this team. Both teams have a lot to prove as we continue into week 2 with Smoking Bases taking the win 17 – 6

Average Joes and Athletic Hoes Vs Inglorious Batters

Average Joes and Athletic Hoes cross into mostly new territory with Wiffleball as they faced a very energetic Inglorious Batters. AJAH has the same crew they use in every sport they dominate in. Captain Jeremy S and his crew, although not playing a lot of wiffleball in their FWSSC history, were able to come out on top with a final score of 34 – 16. Bleak as the final score is, the Batters didn’t do bad at all. Considering AJAH had back to back innings of 10 runs to start the game, the Batters held them pretty well for the rest of the game. They were also able to make up a huge part of that difference with a great 3rd inning, in which they were able to score 8 runs. Newcomers for Inglorious Batters, Nick, Tim, Travis, and Bryan got a taste of playing in the league with quite possibly the best party crew the league has. On the other side of that coin, they also got to understand what it is like to play the indomitable Average Joe team.

Balls Deep VS Jager Bombers

Fan favorite and returning team, Balls Deep, faced off against a variant of a long-standing kickball team, the Jager Bombers. The Bombers had an up hill fight to start this match off with pitcher Troy B being injured and not being able to move all that much. With offensive woes to start this week off, the Bombers defense, which did quite well, wasn’t enough to stop the heavy hitting Balls Deep. Final score was in favor of BD 24 – 5. Balls Deep showed why they are the returning champs with an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball. Powerhouses Blake D and Leah H led BD on the offense side, while Dave C and Liz C didn’t let much get passed on the defense. Balls are looking for another championship this session, while captain Will D for the Jager Bombers, look to get their first win in the books for week 2.

Spicy Swingers VS Get Rec’d

What a game to end the first night of wiffleball as The Spicy Swingers lost in the last inning VS Get Rec’d 16 – 13. Let’s face it. For all of you who don’t know the Swingers, they haven’t had the best of luck in wiffleball…

” I think my curse is gone!”

And unfortunately, this week wasn’t any different. They started out strong and held the lead the majority of the game. Team player and lifelong wiffleball enthusiast, Becky S had high hopes. She was quoted, ” I think my curse is gone!” in reference to her team’s bad luck. Personally, she did quite well, getting a number of outs and tough catches at first base. But it wasn’t meant to be as Get Rec’d, rallied in the closing stages of the game. Ethan P led his team through the onslaught to score 6 runs in the top of the 6th inning to take the lead. If Get Rec’d learned anything from this opening game, it was the rules! Skipping the overview of the rules, they realized several mistakes they made throughout the game and were able to fix them without it costing them the game. Both teams put up good numbers and look towards week 2 as the fight for trophy heats up!

 Thursday Wallyball – week 2 – Spring, ’19

Vick in a Box started driving down the field in the beginning of the game but was then intercepted by Corey. However, turning around on the very next play, Matt from Vick in a Box got a Pick 6 setting the tone for his team for the rest of the evening.  With another Pick 6 from Vick in a Box’s Sean, their team lead at halftime 8 to 21. At halftime, We touch down there noted that they needed more fireball! Without the much needed fireball and Vick in a Box’s defense, We touch down there was held to 8 points while Vick in a Box kept upping their score. Although the final score was 8 to 41, We touch down there held their heads high as they noted that they held nothing back, and knew that they would have played better if they wouldn’t have ran out of fireball.

Only Butt Stuff vs SeaChickens

Off to a rocky start with both teams unable to complete their passes and coming up short on the fourth down, Natalie came through for Only Butt Stuff scoring a touchdown and racking up 8 points for her team.  She also contributed with two sacks in the first half. With just a few seconds to go on the clock, Stacey, from Only Butt Stuff, also helped out her team. Stopping the Seachickens from scoring while on their own 3rd yard line, Only Butt Stuff claimed the lead at halftime 17 to 6. Tuning in to the ever-so famous quotes from the Seachickens, Dylan shared his thoughts, “How you do anything is how you do everything” and, “Better to be on the same page than to be on the right page.” With a few chuckles from teammates, they wondered if they were even on the same page. Throwing a touchdown pass to Joe and a again to Lindsey for the extra point, as well as a pass to Austin in the last 17 seconds, Only Butt Stuff took the victory 45 to 12. Flag Fabulous vs Vicious & Delicious

Flag Fabulous was quick to score for their game; with a pass from Austin to Ashley, they quickly tallied up 8 points. With a halftime score of 19 to 17 Vicious & Delicious kept their energy up outscoring their opponents. Vicious & Delicious should’ve been taking shots and drinking more often throughout the season as the final outcome of this week concluded with their first victory! This of course left Flag Fabulous to claim the golden toilet bowl seat at the bar afterwards.

This of course didn’t stop her from coming out, enjoying the beautiful weather, and cheering on her team from the sidelines. On the other end of the sidelines, Vick in a Box was curious about their teammate Jason Bracht. Wearing only a tank top in the cold weather, his teammates wondered where his sweatshirt was. With a score 41 to 15 at the break – Viscous and Delicious huddled up to discuss a better strategy. Frustrated with John’s interceptions, they were determined to play a better second half.  Their new strategy appeared to work as Taylor scored a quick touchdown; though in the end he was unmatched with Eric, Brittany L, Josh, and Cory all scoring for We Touch Down There. Final score of the game was 62 to 15

“We viciously and deliciously touched down there”

SeaChickens vs Only Butt Stuff

Two top teams, the Seachickens and Only Butt Stuff, both started the game excitedly, searching for a primetime victory. Due to all the players on both teams being color blind everyone struggled to differentiate between the navy and black colors of the sweatshirts. This lead to some confusion and delayed responses. Most of the first half was a nail-biter, but with only 2 minutes left the SeaChickens started to pull away. An amazing interception by Dylan maintained a 16 to 6 lead at halftime for the SeaChickens. Ready to come out after a couple beers, Erica set the tone by throwing a touchdown and Only Butt Stuff never regained a fighting chance. Final score of the game was 38 to 6.

Vick in a Box vs Every Inch Counts

“Be an amoeba! Move as one!” ~Every Inch Count’s Battle Cry!  Focused on their zone defense Every Inch Counts made it a goal to win the game with solid D. Sticking to their strategy they began with a lead of 7 to 0, but then broke down a minute before the half. Determined to get on the board,  Vick in a Box hustled up and marched down the field to score a touchdown evening the halftime score of 7 to 7. In the second half, Lane contributed to Every Inch’s zone defensive game plan by deflecting a pass on a fourth down regaining control for his team; however, nothing could be done to stop Matt and Jason from both scoring touchdowns and once again evening the score 19 all. With the timer buzzing and the score tied it was time for Sudden Death. Vick in a Box having possession of the ball, they could not complete their fourth down pass and gave the ball away,  even though that fateful pass fumbled through five different people’s hands. Taking advantage of the opportunity, (and skipping the other 4 over-time possessions) Every Inch Counts passed and ran the ball in for a touchdown, leaving two defenders on the ground who had leaped and lunged for a flag but whom came up empty handed. Vick in a Box attributed their loss to Austin Hardesty, who had 5 fumbles and scored a touchdown in the wrong end zone. They also wanted to note that although they may have not won, their team is the “best social champs.”

“We lost tonight, but we are shooting for the best social champs” ~ Austin “butterfingers” Hardesty

TD’s and Beer vs Flag Fabulous

Beginning their game with a few subs, each team adjusted to the new faces and dynamics of the players. Robert took the lead for TD’s and Beer by scoring 3 touchdowns to help his team out. This contributed to a 21 to 16 lead at halftime. Flag Fabulous didn’t shy away; Ryan, Samantha, and Moriah all racked up points with their touchdowns. In a competitive and friendly game Moriah was crowned substitute of the week. In her post-game interview she exclaimed “I wish I was in the league!” (Good news Moriah, the next Flag Football season starts in May!) Ryan also explained how FWSSC is great because, “You get to come out and meet new people and it even gets you off the couch.” With a close game  TD’s and Beer finished in  the lead. Angel made the final interception, running into the end zone to put the nail in coffin, ending the game at a  score of 35-24.
